About

How I got started-

I began my journey into jewelry and metalsmithing over 30 years ago. Like so many, I was not encouraged to pursue the arts, but rather a career in the sciences. Throughout my career in biology, mathematics and technology my expressive interests remained strong. When I reached my 40’s, I decided it was time to break the ice and do something artistic in my spare time! I enrolled in my first art class. It was an art jewelry class!

These first steps excited me to explore the full range of metal techniques used in jewelry design and construction. I continue to study the metal arts and have taken many classes and short courses related to special techniques in order to expand and refine my abilities.

Chasing and repousse specifically-

Chasing and repousse is the technique of sculpting flat, sheet metal into 3 dimensional form using a hammer and steel tools. The technique is useful not only for jewelry, but also for larger sculptural pieces. I began my study about 13 years ago and I have taken classes from nationally and internationally known artists. Chief among them: Il Maestro Fabrizio Acquafresca of Florence, Italy. Fabrizio is a master in the Italian style of chasing and repousse. I began my classes with Fabrizio in 2013 and continue to study with him.

Even though I love chasing and repousse, I consider it another tool in my smithing tool box!

Creating sculpture and connection-

I truly view jewelry as small scale sculpture combining metal, texture, color, shine and sparkle expressively. My goal is to craft high quality pieces that are unique and one-of-a-kind, using all my capabilities.

My greatest joy-

  • to dream a piece
  • to design the piece
  • to construct the piece in metals and stone
  • to realize the dream
  • to share my dream with you!

Here are a few of my pieces from the past.
